Recurring WoW battlegrounds: organise groups of 10, 15 or 40

A weekly PvP evening is easier to remember than a fresh negotiation every weekend. It still needs the right group size and a clear explanation of places. G4 Planning lets you organise battlegrounds in Discord, including a random BG for 10, 15 or 40 players. Here is how to set up that recurring appointment without importing PvE raid quotas into a PvP group or promising that a bigger gauge will recruit players for you.

Choose the right battleground entry

The product lists Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Darkspear Islands, Alterac and a random battleground. Its current catalogue is oriented towards WoW: Forever. Check the entry offered in the Activity instead of assuming that a list written for another WoW version applies unchanged. Named battlegrounds keep their catalogue size. The selectable sizes of 10, 15 and 40 belong to the random BG option, not to every event in the planning tool.

For that random BG, the default size is 15 and the stated minimum level is 10. Choose a format that matches the group you can realistically assemble. A smaller regular session may be more useful than repeatedly announcing forty places and hoping people appear. Talk to the players who expect to return each week before deciding. Capacity is a limit for the event; it is not a prediction of turnout or a recruitment mechanism.

Create and check the first occurrence

If needed, add the G4 Planning Activity to the guild’s Discord. An authorised organiser selects the BG, date, time, duration and, for a random BG, group size. Read the event before sharing it. This is the easiest time to notice an incorrect date or a default of fifteen when you intended ten. The getting-started guide covers the general setup without mixing it up with battleground-specific choices.

Keep the event note practical: the session’s aim, voice meeting point and how to report a delay. Do not promise particular matchmaking or competitive results. G4 Planning organises participation; it does not control the games you play. Members still need to meet the chosen BG’s requirements. The WoW feature page describes the planning scope, which helps separate what the tool does from the tactical expectations your guild wants to set.

Treat roles as information, not reserved capacity

Tank, healer and DPS choices help organisers read a BG group, but they do not create a raid’s fixed role quotas. The relevant capacity is the event’s total size. Choosing a scarce role does not automatically create an extra place beyond that limit. Explain this before the last slots fill so that members understand why an apparently useful role may still belong to someone on the bench rather than in the active group.

Raids work differently, with role quotas as part of their composition. Our raid setup guide handles that model separately. Do not change your explanation of PvE rules to solve a PvP group issue, and do not describe BG benching as a class-selection system. The guild can discuss its preferred strategy, but tactical advice and the planning tool’s capacity rules are different things. Keeping that distinction clear prevents avoidable disagreements over places.

Decide how the bench will work

Discord and Pro offer automatic benching when enabled. Additional relevant signups go to the bench once the group is full. On Free, players use the manual “Bench OK” choice instead. Show people the actual journey available on your plan rather than describing automation they will not see. A brief test with volunteers helps everyone distinguish their response from a confirmed active place before the first crowded evening.

Also agree on what substitutes are expected to do. Should they remain reachable, and until when? These are arrangements between people, not guarantees made by the bot. When a place becomes available, check the actual schedule before confirming a change in voice chat. That avoids calling two substitutes for one slot or leaving someone waiting without an answer. A well-explained bench makes the session easier to organise without treating spare players as an afterthought.

Make it recur without losing the chosen size

Recurrence is included in Discord and Pro and recreates the weekly grid. For a new random-BG series, the size selected at creation is retained when later occurrences are generated. A ten-player series should not quietly become fifteen just because another week appears; the same applies to forty. Older series without a stored size fall back to the catalogue size. That compatibility behaviour is worth checking when you pick up an existing recurring event.

Keeping the size does not rewrite occurrences that already exist. Review what is actually displayed before assuming an older calendar has changed retrospectively. Check holidays, exceptional evenings and time changes as well. Recurrence reproduces an appointment, not every member’s availability, and it is not automatic enrolment of the entire guild. A recurring session remains something organisers should review and players should respond to as their plans become clear.

Remind people, then adjust the format

Pins and reminders depend on the plan. Automatic WoW reminders cover raids and BGs, not guild activities such as farming. Check the chosen channel and permissions before relying on notifications. Keep the main instruction simple: update your response as soon as your plans change. Our attendance guide explains how to do that without replacing clear commitments with a stream of mentions that players eventually learn to ignore.

After a few sessions, ask whether the format matches the group you actually have. If you change size, review upcoming events before announcing the new arrangement. The aim is not to fill the largest possible gauge; it is to bring together players who know when to arrive and where they stand. The G4 Planning comparison sets out Free’s limits and the organisation features available on Discord and Pro.

Which plan fits?

Free costs €0 and allows two raids or BGs per week combined, plus five WoW activities. Discord costs €7.90/month or €79/year; Pro costs €12.90/month or €129/year. Reminders, pins and recurrence start with Discord. The Website option adds €4.90/month or €49/year to Discord or Pro: €12.80 or €17.80/month in total. It is not available on Free. Online payment is not open yet; contact the team for a paid plan. Check the full details on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default group size?

The random BG defaults to 15 players, with a minimum level of 10. Its available sizes are 10, 15 and 40.

Does recurrence enrol players?

No. It recreates events. Members still need to respond according to their availability; the appointment and participation are separate things.
