Wardogs: the beginner’s guide to getting started

Wardogs is a tactical FPS by BULKHEAD and Team17, in early access. Up to 100 players, three factions and one simple rule: the faction that controls the zone scores. Easy to understand, much less easy to play. Here are the habits that make a difference from your very first matches.

1. Understand what wins

Kills feel good, but they don’t win the match. What counts is time spent holding the zone. Before charging the first enemy, check where the objective is and ask yourself: does this fight bring me closer to it, or take me away from it?

2. Never play completely alone

With three factions on a big map, an isolated player gets caught in the crossfire. Stay within reach of at least one teammate. If you come solo, join a squad at spawn: on the G4melab community server, Discord voice is there for exactly that.

3. Pick a role and stick to it

An effective squad isn’t five copies of the same player. Someone opens, someone covers, someone heals or resupplies. Try several roles in your first sessions, then keep the one where you feel useful. With G4 Studio, your player profile shows the roles you play most: handy for splitting tasks within the team.

4. Always call it out

A good callout beats a good shot. Three pieces of info are enough: where, how many, what. “Two left of the building, pushing up.” Short, clear, useful. And when you die, give the info before you complain.

5. Split up the map

If everyone rushes the same point, the rest of the map falls. The best matches on the G4 server are the ones where each squad holds its sector. The more people on the server, the more fronts open up, and the more intense the matches get.

6. Accept losing your first matches

The map is huge and packed with objectives: it takes a few sessions to read it. Watch how others play, spot the routes they use and the dominant vantage points. Rewatching your own clips helps enormously: rewatching a death is how you figure out where the shot came from.
