Levelling up in Wardogs means unlocking the weapons, attachments and vehicles that define your playstyle. Good news: in Season 2, Bulkhead made progression much faster. Bad news: easy shortcuts (XP farming, exploits) get you banned. Here’s how to progress fast, the clean way.
How XP works in Wardogs
There’s no class to choose at the start: your role is what you do in the match. Each action earns XP on the corresponding track. In Season 2 there are seven progression tracks: WARDOG (the general track), Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver.
Watch out for the trap: reaching a level isn’t always enough. Many items then have to be unlocked with cash. For example, the TCX-SPR arrives at Assault level 20 and costs $100,000 to unlock, then $3,200 every time you buy it from the vendor. Racing through XP without earning money will leave you with pending unlocks.
What changed in Season 2
The XP curve was redone. Level 20 on a track now needs 111,500 XP in total versus 250,000 in Season 1: according to Bulkhead, it takes less than half the playtime to get there. Level 10 is now 25,000 XP, level 15 is 54,750, and level 50 is 1,150,000. Bulkhead also announced that each season would have its own curve and unlock order: don’t be surprised if everything moves again in Season 3.
The actions that earn XP, role by role
Here are the official Season 2 rewards worth paying attention to. The logistics values were given by Bulkhead for deliveries in the Control Zone.
Assault: attacking bases
- Hacking an enemy FOB earns the hacker $2,500 and 250 XP, and $1,000 and 250 XP for each teammate within the FOB’s radius. Come as a group.
- Destroying a FOB gives a bonus of up to $7,500 and 250 XP depending on the resources it held.
- Destroying a buildable, planting an IED or C4 now earns Assault XP (no longer Support). The Molotov arrives at Assault level 13.
Support and logistics: delivery streaks
Base logistics rewards went down, but streaks now reward round trips: +50 XP per crate delivered in a row (up to 10), +100 XP per pallet in a row (up to 10), +5 XP per player transported in a row (up to 25) and +25 XP per return in a row (up to 10). Dropping a large supply crate earns 400 XP, and so does a pallet. In short: a good logistics driver who sticks with their truck progresses very well.
Driver and Pilot: repairing and destroying vehicles
Repair XP now goes to the Driver or Pilot track depending on the vehicle repaired, and artillery earns Driver XP. Each vehicle variant has its own destruction reward, and armed versions give 1.5 times the XP of the base version.
Recon: spotting, with lower returns
Spotting was cut by about 30% compared with Season 1: Bulkhead felt it paid too well for so little risk. It now pays more on high-value targets (armed vehicles, large buildables) than on small fry.
Hot Zone, towers and squad: the multipliers of your playtime
- Play in the zone. Money comes mostly from team actions in the Control Zone, and the Hot Zone, the moving sub-zone, pays double cash. Players there also count double for the score. The more useful time you spend there, the more rewarded actions you chain.
- Capture towers. Taking an enemy drill tower earns $1,500 and 300 XP in Season 2. Everything is explained in our guide to capturing a tower.
- Play as a squad. An organised squad chains revives, transports and FOB hacks far more often than a solo player. Our guide to playing with your friends explains how to set up your group.
- Help fill empty servers. Since Season 2, players who populate an empty server earn rewards and a vendor discount at the start of the match.
What we won’t do: glitches and farm servers
Bulkhead doesn’t joke about this. Since patch 0.11, abusing a cash or XP exploit leads to a temporary ban and a reset of your cash and XP. Publishing an exploit tutorial without reporting it is a permanent ban. And joining an XP farm server for more than a few minutes also leads to a permanent ban: the studio says it tracks every server you join. In Season 2, an XP exploit on the Driver track again earned 24-hour bans for those who used it.
On the G4melab server, we play normally: no farming, no exploits, and your progression counts on your account just as on an official server. According to Bulkhead, cash and XP earned on a community server are kept.
Wardogs XP FAQ
How long does it take to reach level 20?
Bulkhead hasn’t given a duration for Season 2, but says it takes less than half the playtime of Season 1. In Season 1, the median player reached level 20 in 20 to 25 hours.
Does XP earned on a community server count?
Yes. Cash and XP earned on a community server carry over to your account, as long as the server isn’t a farm server.
Which track should I level first?
The one that matches what you already do in matches. If you’re new, the Assault track (base attacks, kills) and Support logistics are the easiest to keep ticking over while playing with your team.
Is progression reset every season?
Bulkhead has been quoted explaining that cash and XP progression are reset at the end of the season, with cash converted into gold bars, and that bars and cosmetics are kept. The exact terms may change: check the official announcements before each new season.
